Women have been portrayed as not as important people back in the days. Especially black women, and men. Most movies didn’t show black men and women in a major role or playing someone of a success. Usually someone who does not do well or is a bad person. Even if movies that were maid and directed by a black person, did not do so good in the box office. That’s how it was until the movie, Waiting to Exhale. Where four black women lived their lives and their problems with finding male friends. All for four women were successful, which was a different from other movies. This movie had a lot of talks because of its different approach in the movies, with having four black women play major roles and really have no racist or discriminating roles. I personally never seen this movie and would of never even heard about if I didn’t have this class and have to read it. I think even if I seen this movie, I would of not seen those points I showed early, because when I watch movies I usually don’t notice these like racial or discriminating things unless its really oblivious. Like in the movie, Flight Plan, with Jodie Foster, where she loses her kid on the plan and there is no record of her being on the plane. She eventually blames these Middle Eastern guys on taking her, which starts the rest of the passengers to call them, highjackers and other racist things. Which I thought was really racist especially with the 9-11 attacks.

Today on the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Hillary has to do community service and is sent to a medical clinic. This is a nig change for Hillary because she not used to be around poor sick people and in a building that is broken down and old. Once she goes in, she is disgusted. She then sees a doctor that she thinks is cute, and is then happy about doing this community service. Will then tells Hillary that guys like, the doctor, don’t like girls like, Hillary, they like smart, intelligent girls. So, Hillary changes her physical traits to get the doctor. Also, Jazz, Will’s best friend needs a place to stay after getting kicked out of his apartment, and after lots of bleeding, Phil lets Jazz stay, but will work around the house because Geoffrey was on vacation. Jazz’s nice clean-ups and neat routines shock the whole family because they are not used to see this side of Jazz. This is true; you always see guys or girls that change their style of living for another to try to attract them into liking the person. Guys or girls may not drink as much or smoke if their with a person that doesn’t do that kind of stuff. People always try to act like some there not to get someone attention but always on TV shows the person comes to realizes that the person should like the person for who they are. Sometimes people find that out the hard way.

I think that the writer was trying to say the Batman is gay. The Batman Forever supposedly shows signs to the writer that Batman had to be gay. Things like how Robin was at Batman’s bedside when Batman was hurt, and when Bruce, Batman, comes out of the shower in only a towel. That is kind of wired to me too but I don’t think his gay at all. When I was a kid growing up and watching all the new installments of this series, I never thought it was gay or noticed anything gay. She also said how the Riddler, Jim Carey’s character always said, “Spank me!” and wore tight green spandex. She also noted that there wasn’t really any guys and girls action, getting really intimate; they, Bruce and Chase, just kiss with their clothes on. But, when its time for the guys to change into Batman and Robin, the directors show them changing. Although, she only talked about how Batman was gay, there have been talks about how all comic book superheroes are gay. I personally never noticed this and would have never noticed it, if I didn’t read the article. How the superhero has a secret identity, and never really has a girlfriend. She also talked about camp characters. How this character, like Jim Carey’s Riddler was the camp in the movie. I think that if I never had read this article, I would have never noticed this, and I would just watch the movie as is and would think nothing of it.

Today I watch the new show on MTV; the Real World/Road Rules challenge Inferno 3. I like to watch these shows and seasons of it. I like the conflicts and challenges that the competitors do. Today was the first episode of the new season and it was good. It had the good guys versus the bad guys. It had all the bad guys and girls on one team, and all the good guys and girls on one team. They had one competitor, CT, who supposedly hit another competitor, which is a big NO, in these series; it’s an automatic sent home. So, CT got sent home on the first night. But, the directors brought in another competitor for that team. The funny thing I saw was when a competitor was put on the bad guys team, he was shocked at first; but then when his team started winning the first team challenges, he starts saying things like, oh the good guys suck, bad guys are going to win. And at first he didn’t want to be on the bad guys team. It was like his persona changed, and he was Mr. Bad Ass now. Another thing, that you usually see in this challenges is that the new guys and girls are always going home first or being sent in to the elimination round of the game. Also, in these shows, the competitors make a lot of new enemies and alliances to stay in the game until the end, where there is a big jackpot waiting for the remaining competitors.

The movie, The Land of the Dead, was good. I did found it weird how it started out in the middle and didn’t give any information about how the disease spread. It was weird that the people didn’t really care about the zombies, they never really talked about them, and they had a shrine to the zombies. I found it stupid that when they zombies came into the city, the soldiers shot everyone accept the man with the gun, Big Daddy. Even when zombies are roaming the Earth, money is still in issue. I also don’t know why, no one tried to contact anyone else in different area and try to get some help. It looks like the zombies are starting to talk. Which is a big change from other zombie films. This film fell into other films, the main good characters stayed alive and the characters that were bad dead, except for Big Daddy. There was real no story in this film, the soldiers just see each other, say high and say I lived here. I don’t know why the humans decided to let the zombies go, and let them live outside of the city. I mean, won’t the zombies come back when its feeding time for them. For the zombies to survive, the zombies got to eat humans. So, how’s that going to work? To me, most movies are predictable. I know most of the time what’s going to happen. Sometimes I’m wrong but most of the time I’m right.

Today on the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Will cheats on his fiancée Lisa. He kisses another girl named Denise, a girl that had a lot in common with Will. Will gets afraid and goes to talk to his uncle about it. Phil tells him, not to cheat and just be careful with what you say in front of your fiancée. The next day, Will tries to ignore Denise, even putting glasses to hide his eyes. Will tells her he can’t cheat on his fiancée and leaves. Denise then befriends Will fiancée, Lisa; by telling a straight lie and having Lisa invite Denise over Will’s house, for Lisa’s wedding shower. Will ends driving home Denise and at her apartment is where she tried to seduce Will. But in the end, Will said no and walked away. Stuff like this is always going on with relationships. Guys or girls sometimes want to cheat on the other and they hope they won’t find out. Sometimes you have a guy’s night out or a girl’s night out, and you might have somebody come up to you and start flirting and hitting on you. Some people actually cheat on their girlfriend or boyfriend and don’t have any regret, some people do. Some couples have an honesty policy and tell each other everything. I can say I have a made a few dumb mistakes in my life with that issue. Some people cheat and some people don’t but that is an issue that goes on with relationships.

The movie The Land of Dead, so far looks good. I don’t like how it just started right into the army man in the hunt for the zombies. It’s funny that how the zombies have started to grow thought out the series of zombie films. At first, they couldn’t do anything, then they grew, and now some of them now how to use a gun. Which was really weird at first because I have never seen a zombie with a gun and know how to actually use it. Also, the zombies have a language of their own, they understand each other and talk to each other so they can find a way to get to the humans, so they can get to the humans and eat them up. In the movie, it looks like the community has made another life, away from the zombies and like it’s not a big deal to them. There is still rich people living in good places and poor people living on the streets. I would think, the community will be helping each other and making a place for everyone. In the movie, there is a big boss man, that really doesn’t care about anyone else but himself. I would be the same in that kind of situation, but all he is thinking about is money when there are hundreds of zombies running around, killing and eating everyone. I like Charlie in the movie because he has one hell of a shot. The funny thing is that the leader of the zombies is named Big Daddy.

Today on the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Will gets a job. Will wanted to get money from Uncle Phil for a homecoming dance, but gets angry when Uncle Phil calls Will one of his own, just like Carlton. So Will goes and gets a job to pay for homecoming himself and to fell more like a man. The only person that knows of his job is Ashley. Ashley’s friend, Tina, has a crush on Carlton. When Will’s grades start to fall, Phil and Vivian confront Will. When Will tells them I got a job, Phillip doesn’t believe him and grounds. Before the Banks went out to celebrate Ashley’s achievement, Phil wanted to talk to Will, come to find out, his gone. Ashley takes them to Will job, where after being a rude waiter, shows them who his is, and works everything out with Phillip. Teenagers can feel how Will was feeling in that show. Most teenagers want to have a job, so they can have money to pay for their own things, so they can go shopping anytime they want and spend as much as they want. Most of the teenagers probably wont keep it a secret from their parents but, most teenagers would want a job to have their own money, instead of an allowances that may only pay few dollars a week. I know I wanted a job since I was 12 years old. Some parents might disagree with their teenagers getting a job and some may let. Like I said, most teenagers want a job so, they can pay their own way.

Movies are great. I enjoy watching movies. I like to watch a plethora of movies. Movies like; horror, comedy, action, mystery and suspense, and adventure. I really enjoy horror movies the most. Even though, I think most horror are not as scary as they use to be. Even though, I don’t watch movies as much as I used to before I still enjoy watching them. My favorite horror movie would the Halloween installments, just because I liked how he always came back to life, even though Jason and Freddy Krueger were the same thing. Back in the days when I didn’t have to work as much, I used to always go to the movies at least once a week with my friends and also rent a movie from the Blockbuster and watch it with my sister. One of my favorite comedy movies would be Borat, just because it was one hell of funny ass movies; I could not stop laughing. But like I said, I really enjoy watching scary, horror movies the most. I like the suspense. I like to watch mystery and suspense for that reason, the mystery and suspense. I like to guess who’s doing what and who’s killing whom. Movies are great to watch, I love watching them. I will always go to the movie theater if there is a movie that I want to watch. Sometimes I do miss watching a movie that I want to watch at the movie theater, but then I could just rent it when it comes out on DVD.

Today on the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Will and the Banks family take in an old friend surprisingly. A friend from back in the days, when Mr. and Mrs. Banks were fighting and protesting for civil rights and free speech and trying to make it better for blacks; shows up. When Will and Carlton’s teacher get fired, Will decides its time to take action and protest. Later, the Banks found out the FBI is looking for the friend for doing illegal things, and the FBI knew she was in town. They decide to help her and not rat her out. Well Mr. and Mrs. Banks, Will and Ashley do. Carlton and Hillary want to rat her out because of fear of jail time and the FBI. Will gets suspended from school for his actions on protesting to keep his teacher’s job. Mr. and Mrs. Banks get very upset when they found out about the suspension. When the FBI comes looking for her, they decide to tell them nothing, except she went somewhere that she didn’t go. Friends always help other friends in times like this. Maybe not for the same reason but friends and family always will be there to help and protect their friend. Friends always will take home a friend who got kicked of their house. The Banks were just trying to help their friend from getting in trouble. Like I said, any real friend would do that for any real friend. Friends always will help each other out.

This essay was different from the first essay. I had to write about unreal vs. real on TV dramas and shows. I talked about the differences in the Real World and Bam’s Unholy Union. I also talked about their similarities in the shows. This essay was a little bit easier to write because I got to talk about shows that I unusually have time to watch. The paper I think had lots of good points. I also think that I had some examples and thoughts in this essay. Throughout my essay I talked about how the Real World is real and that Bam’s Unholy Union is not real. The reason was because Bam’s Unholy Union had people doing crazy stunts, which I thought, wouldn’t happen if they weren’t getting paid. And the Real World was real because it had random people in a house, and they just act like they do at home. Even though the creators pick who they want on purpose to create all that juicy drama that the viewers love. The cast members are chosen like that so that they can do something stupid on TV, like a fight, say something racist, or something that bother somebody else. On Bam’s Unholy Union he and friends do stupid stunts, but who would do them if they weren’t getting paid. On Bam’s Unholy Union, he is getting married, Bam, and he is not doing any of the wedding assignments, his fiancé is. The paper brings out a lot of great points.

Today on the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Will gets Hillary out. He tricks some of Hillary’s dimwit friends in to telling him that Hillary has dropped out of college, three months ago to be exact, and decides to use it to his advantage because he got grounded for a month because of her. Will makes Hillary his personal slave. When Hillary decides to tell Carlton about it, he does the same, until she cracks and tells her parents. But Will was never going to tell on Hillary. This kind of stuff happens all the time. It may not happen exactly how it happened on the show but it happens. Brothers and or sisters always do keep secrets away from their parents and sometimes when its really big news, they might blackmail them. Friends do the same thing also. Friends, family always like to keep secrets from other people, they might act liked they are going to tell someone about, but they don’t, its just to mess with your head. When your friend tells you a big secret or something he doesn’t want somebody else know. When your brother or sister tell you what happen on his date or what he or she did back then when they were younger. Secrets are kept with everyone to make in life. Your boss may not like or like your work but he or she might keep you and make you do all the bad work and act all nice to you in your face and then talk behind your to other people.

In the reading, I read about how it’s hard for some people to “come out of the closet.” By that I mean coming out and saying that you’re gay or a lesbian. And most people get mocked and laughed at for being that way. Ellen DeGeneres had a show called, Ellen, after she came out, her rating fell. She was made fun of and mocked on all the late night shows and TV parody shows. When the show Friends aired it had two lesbians with a kid. They were mocked on the show, because they both breast feeding the kid and the others just looked at them as they were doing the wrong thing. The ratings stayed good because the two girls were being made fun of in the show, they were seen as doing the wrong thing in their relationship. On another TV show, Will and Grace, it has two guy and girl. Both the guys are gay, but one of them is out of closet gay and like a girl gay. The other one is more of straight gay and his best friend is a straight girl. They both go shopping together and talk about guys. This show showed both types of the homosexuality. I think that now and days, being gay is much of big deal as it was back in the day. I think that more people are open to it and more used it. But there are people and always will be people who don’t accept them as with other issues.

I don’t understand what the author was talking about, most of time. He was just saying Real World’s first season was the best. Then he says Real World 3 is the beat season. The he says I’ve seen all the seasons and all the shows at least three times. He must be a loser if he seen them that many times. He doesn’t talk about how the producers put those seven strangers in that house for a reason. The producers actually hand pick each one, so they can get the conflicts, fights, and arguments that the producers want so they can get higher TV ratings. They always pick a drunk person, a black person, a gay person, and somebody that is wanting to come out and go crazy. On the Real World, the seven strangers get free alcohol from the producers I think, so the seven strangers can get drunk and say something they don’t want to say, like a race comment. The author also went on to say that he wouldn’t want to be on that show because it kind of makes you nobody. People who were on that show and went on to try to become a singer failed, some went bankrupted. Its like all you would be remembered for is being on that show. The only way you could make money is by going on the Real World/Road Rules challenges. I still think that the author was repeating about how Real World’s first season and how its actually the real world and it’s the Real World and it’s the real world and so on.

Today in class we talked about how reality TV shows have influenced real life. How government has influence with TV Dramas and reality shows as well as dating shows. Shows like, Elimidate, the Real World, 5th Wheel, Survivor, and other shows. Most of the time government plays a part in the shows. Telling what and what not they can say on TV. What has to be censored and can be said. But over the years the FCC has more curse words to be said on TV as the years went on. Recently I heard that the FCC wants to try to decrease the rate of violence on TV. The FCC thinks that it screws the minds of children and teaches them bad things, but they a lot of sex on cable. TV has a lot of influence on people but I think that if kids are going to pick up bad words, they would still pick them up when their older, so it doesn’t matter where they get it from. If kids hang out with their friends, they can pick up violence or a bad word from them. What if a friend lets steal this candy bar. Then your kid will do it, and keep on doing it as he gets older and it might turn into more valuable things being stolen. So, TV has lots to do with how we people think everyday of our lives, because we watch so much of it. Its that you can learn anything from anybody.

Doing this paper about ads and advertisers was all right. I choose a “got milk?” ad, a Nyquil ad, a six different time zones watch ad, and Dole products ad. All these ads have something to do with how advertisers get their consumers to buy their products. They show something that the consumer would like, like; a beautiful girl with a beautiful guy. They two people have the best bodies and there like not an average person. Someone who an average or poor person could not be. All the ads that I had, the ones that had a person in it, had a skinny beautiful person. That’s how advertisers sell their products. They show celebrities saying that Burger King makes me bigger or smarter. And then a consumer will go out and buy that product because consumers will love to look like their favorite celebrity. They even have shows, were average people going under the knife to look like their favorite celebrities. Anyway that the advertisers can catch the consumers with their ads. Ads like getting healthier faster or paying one dollar for this car. But they don’t tell you about how you go there or all the secret fine prints. Like when you buy a cell phone from any company. Most of the companies say they will give a free phone if you sign up with them. But that depends on the plan and that you have to have a contract with them that lasts to about a two years.

SO when they see an opening, they strike at it. They both notice that “G” always plays the lottery, hoping he wins so he can quit his job and gets the hell out here. So, one night Will and Carlton decide to watch a lottery drawing with Geoffrey and when he loses, the boys take the losing receipt, tape the drawing for that night and show it to “G.” He thinks he won, he quits, makes fun of everyone, dissing his former employer and his kids. The Banks fell apart, when they all got to do the chores that “G” usually does and they can’t stand it. When they found out that Will and Carlton were up to, they were forced to go and found Geoffrey or don’t come back! I totally agree with the reading “Advertising and People of Color,” it’s telling the truth. Advertisers are selling their products to people and people of different races in generally. All types of races: Blacks, Whites, Asians, Latinos, the list goes on. If a company wants to sell a type of product, they will target that race group. We see this not only in ads but things all around us. Some stores in bad neighborhood or a high population Blacks or Latinos in a city will carry stuff that they will buy. And if go to store outside that city, to a rich city or high majority of Jewish or White people, the stores there might carry different products. I know for sure that if you go to a Detroit liquor store, they will have different kinds of alcoholic beverages, and a liquor store in Southfield will have a few different kinds of alcoholic beverages. Race does have affects with selecting products. Usually the products that are being sold to the minorities are like decimating to that person’s race. Some places, like in Detroit will have Popeye’s or Rally’s, but towards the west side and as you leave Detroit, you wont see any kind of fast food restaurants like that. Just the usually ones that are around the West and East; Wendy’s, McDonalds, and Burger King. If you leave from your area and visit a different state or country, you might see different ads and commercials. Race has a lot to do with how advertisers pick out what they want to sell.

Ads are everywhere and their only purpose is to trick us into buying the product. Every commercial try to show us that they have the best of the best for that product. Like the Dentine Gum, 4 out of 5 doctors approve. What kind of doctors are these people. Or a doctor that promotes a Big Mac to make you lose weight. Now we all know, there is no way that a Big Mac can make someone lose weight. The last thing a Big Mac can do is make someone lose weight. Even when advertisers what to do is help you, even if they say the only thing we want to do is help you. The advertisers don’t care if you got sick or die from the product. They just what the money, just like everyone else wants money. Sometimes it’s hard to tell if an advertiser is telling you the truth or not. But when can read the fine print. Its those little words on the back of the item that are very to read. I think it stupid how the fast food companies like McDonalds try to sell their food, saying that it is healthy and it will make you smarter. There is no way that is true. Food CAN’T make you smarter. Your dumb if you believe that, and should might as well at that food. So use your brains to try to spot sneaky ads, because all they are trying to do is get you to buy their product.

One of the best shows is the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The show is over now, nut it airs at late at night on Nick at Night. It stars Will Smith, as the cousin from Philadelphia that moves to California for a better chance at life. There he joins his Uncle Philip Banks, Aunt Vivian Banks, cousins Hillary, Carlton, and Ashley Banks, also the Banks’ butler Geoffrey, a butler that can’t stand the Banks. The whole Banks family can’t function without their butler Geoffrey. Hillary is the oldest of the kids and is also the dumbest of them. She thinks her good looks will get her through life (which kind of does in the show) and is only concerned about herself. Carlton and Will are about the same age and the two that are always getting into trouble with the Parents. Will is always cracking fat jokes at his uncle through out the series. Ashley is the youngest (at the time, they add one more son toward the end of the series.) The Banks were a goodie good family; always had family time, and did good things, until Will came along and caused a whole bunch of problems for the family. Carlton was a smart geekey kid who real has no life. Will was the one all the girls liked (big surprise, his the creator.) Phillip was the attorney/ judge and a smart guy who was loaded. Vivian was a stay at home mom. The Banks had a big house, with pool and a pool house, including the actual house.

Like families that “wake up” early in the morning and dress up, wear shoes (in their own house) and walk around and then sit down on their couch. Nothing bad ever happens, and if it does, they work it out and have a happy ending. Like the show My Wife and Kids, with Damian Wayans, nothing really bad happens, to them. No one ever gets arrested, they don’t fight, and if they do, it’s resolved within that show. They don’t really have any real big problems that have happened. They don’t show a family that is struggling to live and have a poor lifestyle or someone who gets affected by a terrorist attack or a death. It like when I am watching a show like My Wife and Kids, I know how its gonna end if their son steals a something like a phone. His parents are going to find out and his going to get punished. TV shows need to interpret more reality into their shows to make it seem more real. Some TV shows are coming out with reality shows that are more real, like the Real World. TV shows that try to play goodie good family bugs the hell out of me. No family is always that clinging and happy and perfect. They need to make a show with an actually family, a middle class family or poor family and than they can see how the other half lives.

I never knew there were so many signs that could trick you into buying something. Something like a car or a clothing material. Its weird how this companies have messages in their advertisements. They tell a little fact, it might not even be true or help you with your problem. Like the Pizza Hut commercial, they say their better, but to who are they better. Every advertisement is always trying to get you to buy something, and most of the time they don’t tell you anything. You look at the pictures and a sexy skinny guy or girl and you want it. Some advertisements try to show a message to help the consumer like the Truth commercials, those commercials are trying to get smokers to stop smoking and showing the bad effects, like you could lose your lung or your hair. Recently I saw a commercial for the Diet Pepsi Company, showing the Can working with Jackie Chan, and the Can playing porker. Now how does buying and drinking Diet Pepsi get you to do that? There is always advertisement that misleads a consumer, like a buy this plasma 50’ TV for only $900. But when you go there you have to make a rebate and what 4 to 6 months for it and have to end up buying warranty and spend $1500. Something with leasing a car, they show you a cheap price, you go there and they say you need a special piece that only a few have and veterans discount, and they will trick into buying a more expensive car.
