I totally agree with the reading “Advertising and People of Color,” it’s telling the truth. Advertisers are selling their products to people and people of different races in generally. All types of races: Blacks, Whites, Asians, Latinos, the list goes on. If a company wants to sell a type of product, they will target that race group. We see this not only in ads but things all around us. Some stores in bad neighborhood or a high population Blacks or Latinos in a city will carry stuff that they will buy. And if go to store outside that city, to a rich city or high majority of Jewish or White people, the stores there might carry different products. I know for sure that if you go to a Detroit liquor store, they will have different kinds of alcoholic beverages, and a liquor store in Southfield will have a few different kinds of alcoholic beverages. Race does have affects with selecting products. Usually the products that are being sold to the minorities are like decimating to that person’s race. Some places, like in Detroit will have Popeye’s or Rally’s, but towards the west side and as you leave Detroit, you wont see any kind of fast food restaurants like that. Just the usually ones that are around the West and East; Wendy’s, McDonalds, and Burger King. If you leave from your area and visit a different state or country, you might see different ads and commercials. Race has a lot to do with how advertisers pick out what they want to sell.
